Attendance Alerts Just Got a Helpful Upgrade

The Orah Team

November 25, 2024

We’re happy to announce a highly requested update to Orah's Attendance Alerts feature. You can now create custom attendance alerts that notify multiple recipient types — staff, parents/guardians, and students — all in one alert!

This means you can save time and streamline your processes by setting up a single alert that works for everyone involved. Here’s what’s new and how it helps:

What’s New?

Previously, you could only select one recipient type for an attendance alert. For example, if you wanted to notify a student, their parent, and their advisor when the student was late three times in a month, you had to create separate alerts for each recipient type.

Now, you can include all three recipient types in a single alert.

  • Notify students to encourage self-correction.
  • Notify parents/guardians to keep them informed.
  • Notify staff for timely follow-up and oversight.

Each recipient can receive a custom message tailored to their role, and you can choose how it’s delivered (email, SMS, push notification).

Key Benefits for Schools

  1. Save Time
No need to create multiple alerts for the same attendance rule. One alert now does the work for you!
  2. Streamline Workflows
Fewer steps for attendance administrators mean more efficiency and less manual effort.
  3. Customization Options
Filters, communication methods, and messages are fully customizable for each recipient type.
  4. Improve Accountability
With everyone on the same page, students can self-correct attendance behaviors, and staff and parents can support where needed.

How It Works

Let’s say you want to set up an alert for when a student has been absent unexcused 3 times in 1 month. With this update, you can:

  • Notify the student: "You've been marked absent 3 times. Please ensure you attend class on time to avoid further action."
  • Notify the parent: "Your child has been absent unexcused 3 times this month. Please contact us to discuss further."
  • Notify the advisor/staff: "A student in your advisory group has 3 unexcused absences. Please follow up with them."

All this is set up in one simple step, saving you hours every week while ensuring clear communication across the board.

Why Schools Love Attendance Alerts

Schools already using attendance alerts report:

  • Reduced manual work for administrators.
  • Improved student behavior, as students know they’ll be notified and held accountable.
  • Clearer communication between staff, parents, and students.
