December 11, 2024
We’re happy to announce the launch of Student Attendance Insights, a new feature in Orah that gives schools a detailed view of individual student attendance in their student profile. This makes it easier than ever for educators to see attendance trends at a glance and on a course by course basis.
What is Student Attendance Insights?
The Student Attendance Insights is now available on a student profile page within Orah. It is essentially a tab within a student’s profile that aggregates attendance metrics, course specific data and filters. It’s designed to give schools the insights to improve student engagement and accountability on a per student level, in addition to the existing cohort analysis views already available.
Where can I find Student Attendance Insights?
Navigate to a student's profile and as long as you have the “View Insights” permission enabled in your account, you will see their Attendance Insights immediately.
🧭 Navigation > Student Profile > Attendance Insights
What's New?
1. Attendance Metrics in the Student Profile
The page has four main metrics to track a student’s overall attendance:
- Attendance Rate: Combines present and tardy records to show percentage of classes attended.
- Tardiness Rate: Percentage of late arrivals.
- Excused Absence Rate: Percentage of absences with valid reasons.
- Unexcused Absence Rate: Percentage of absences without valid reasons.
These visual metrics allow you to see attendance trends at a glance and identify patterns early.
2. Attendance by Course
- Course: See attendance for specific subjects.
- Attendance Rate: Percentage of classes attended per course.
- Present, Late, Excused, and Unexcused Counts: Detailed data to see where attendance is a challenge.
The table is interactive:
- Sort columns to compare.
- Click on any course to drill down into attendance records, including specific dates and reasons for absences or tardiness.
- View aggregate attendance counts at the top to see at a glance.
3. Filter by Date Range
Choose the time period to see attendance trends for. Pre-set and custom date ranges include:
- Today
- Last 7 Days
- Last 30 Days
- Last 12 Weeks
- Last 12 Months
- (New) Custom Date Range - Choose the time period you would like to analyze.
This gives schools the flexibility to focus on the time period that’s relevant to tracking and intervention.
4. Permissions
The Attendance Insights tab is only visible to users with “View Insights” permissions. This means data is only accessible to the right staff and student privacy is maintained.
How to Use Attendance Insights
- Monitor Attendance Trends: Check attendance metrics regularly to see early signs of tardiness or absenteeism.
- Collaborate with Educators: Share with teachers, counselors or administrators to create a plan of support for the student.
- Use Analytics for Interventions: Use data to create proactive interventions for students whose attendance is declining so guidance and support can be timely.

On the main Attendance Insights Dashboard, you will soon be able to see Attendance both from a Class Attendance and Day Attendance view. This will only work for schools who have their Orah account setup with specific SIS integrations OR schools who are using Orah for Class Attendance initially. Please contact your support representative or submit a demo request if you are not yet an Orah school to confirm eligibility.

We hear you. Different schools track Daily Attendance in various ways, often as a requirement of their local governing bodies. To account for this, you will be able to adjust your Daily Attendance policies to your specifications.
